This Traineeship opportunity is UNPAID Work Experience as part of an entry to work course for those aged from 16 up to 19 years old who are unemployed and not in education.
You will be involved in and learn the following skills;
Cleaning kennels, cat pens and possibly small animal housing to a high standard, including choice and use of disinfectants and tools. Discussing why particular animals are housed in their specific place.
Feeding dogs, cats and possibly small animals including choice of suitable food and feeding bowls. Basic nutritional requirements. Will include washing up.
Exercising dogs of all sizes on the lead and through play. Playing with cats and providing means of encouraging activity.
Learning to bath dogs properly, groom out varying length coats and dry correctly. Will include medical shampoos and the reasons for using different shampoos.
Learning how to worm, flea treat and give other medication safely and correctly. Help with vet visits and preparing dogs for operations, plus aftercare.
Learning how to carry out thorough health checks on dogs and cats, including recording all findings
Dog training and behaviour work, both inside and outside the dog’s kennel. Includes enrichment, lead choices, planning future steps to be taken, selecting suitable rewards and more. Helping with assessments of rescue dogs to prepare them for homing.
Helping ensure all tools and materials are stored and maintained correctly, so lots of putting things away!
Possibly basic maintenance such as painting, grass control, rodent prevention
Suitable trainees may also do some client interaction and assisting.
The traineeship work experience is part of an education and training programme that is focused on supporting young people to gain the skills that employers are looking for when recruiting. At its core is work preparation training, English and Maths for those who need it, and a high quality work experience placement.

Training to be provided by the employer, supported KEITS. This will include one half day a week remote learning with your assessor.
Training will be provided towards an E3 or L1 Gateway Qualification – Skills for the Landbased Sector.
