About this opportunity:

At Wragby Daycare and Boarding we put dogs at the heart of what we do, allowing them to be free and active to do what dogs do best. Our areas are designed for curious noses and minds to explore with their friends, which we can assure they’ll have in abundance after a day with us. We are based In approximately 12 acres of land and operate primarily as an outdoor daycare. We offer home- boarding on site.

We are looking for a full time staff member to help with day to day care of the dogs that come to day care.

Daily duties include:

  • Walking dogs
  • Cleaning boarding area, feeding area, exercise areas and general tidying
  • Feeding dogs
  • Enrichment
  • Occasional cleaning of dogs
  • Scooping exercise areas
  • Greeting clients
  • Performing welfare checks on dogs
  • Giving medication to dogs when necessary
  • Monitoring behaviour and intervening when necessary

There are multiple staff members and you must be able to work well with others to ensure tasks are distributed and completed. Good communication is also required as there is a lot of customer interactions as well as interacting with dogs of all breeds, sizes and ages. The job will also require you to prepare various dog meals (which could include distributing any medication they require) and feeding multiple dogs. You must be alert and have good initiative so you are able to recognise changes in dogs behaviour and you must have an open mind and able to learn as you go. This is an active job where the majority of time is spent outside, regardless of the weather and you must be able to work on your feet all day. Staff can be expected to walk up to 3 dogs at once so being able to multitask is key. The job also includes a lot of general cleaning and disinfecting may this be of feed bowls and equipment or the inside reception and rooms.

Staff will be responsible for monitoring the dogs’ activity, interactions and behaviour throughout each day and be confident to intervene when required.

Desired Qualifications 

  • GCSE Maths and English Grade 4/D or equivalent desired but not essential.
  • Applicant must not already hold a level 2 or higher in animal care.

Future Progression

  • Full time position available after training.

Training 

  •  Full training to be provided by the employer and KEITS at the place of employment.
  •  The applicant will be working towards and gain a Level 2 Animal Care and Welfare Assistant Apprenticeship
  • The learner will be allocated an industry specific training consultant who will provide both remote and on site visits throughout the apprenticeship.
  • The apprentice will work towards an End Point Assessment (EPA) at the end of their apprenticeship
