About this opportunity:

Katie Jerram-Hunnable and her team are based at Collins Farm in Essex, an accredited yard under the BHS and BSPS which can boast first class facilities. We are all extremely approachable and willing to assist all levels and abilities to help you enjoy the sport we love! We strive to achieve the best from the horses which has lead her to take titles such as Supreme Horse at Horse of the Year Show, Royal International Horse Show and other major Championship Shows. In addition to producing top class Hunters, Hacks, Cobs, Riding Horses, Ladies Side Saddle and Working Hunters for the show ring Katie also spends her time helping and encouraging riders to reach higher levels of competition through her expert training skills. During her less busy winter months Katie dedicates her time to her training clinics held at various locations throughout the country.

Although primarily a showing yard, Katie has an extensive knowledge in many equestrian disciplines. All shapes, sizes and abilities catered for and you are welcome at anytime to come and see your horse working; we attend most of the County Shows throughout the country. This is a fantastic opportunity to join an amazing team and learn about the industry!

Duties include:

  • Mucking out
  • Yard duties
  • Turning out
  • Tacking up
  • Assisting at competitions
  • Feeding
  • Assisting with young stock
  • Handling and care of competition horses
  • Helping with Livery clients/ horses

This position welcomes strong horse riders, as there is PLENTY of riding opportunities for the right candidate!

Desired skills

  • Due to the standard of horses, the successful applicant MUST have had some previous experience with working with horses and some riding experience as well, include this in their application and be keen to further their knowledge and experience in both areas.
  • Good customer service skills are needed

Desired qualifications

  • English and maths GCSE’s, or equivalents, are desired.
  • If applicants already hold a level 1 in horse care is desired.

About the Employer

  • Katie: judges around the world including Ireland, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand and has been on English Judegs Panels from the age of twenty one.
  • is a columnist for Horse and Hound and features regularly in many other publications.
  • has published her second book on showing, with the assistance of Carolyn Henderson; this second hard cover book is now available to purchase.
  • is an Accredited trainer with the British Horse Society, the British Show Pony Society and Ponies (UK).
  • gives lecture demonstrations, clinics and also gives talks for the Retaining of Racehorses.


  • Full training to be provided by the employer and KEITS at the place of employment.
  • The applicant will be working towards and gain a Level 2 Equine Groom Apprenticeship
  • The learner will be allocated an industry specific training consultant who will provide both remote and on site visits throughout the apprenticeship.
