Danewood Dressage are an international dressage yard with 11 top quality horses, ranging from just backed youngsters to international grand prix horses. Their current team is made up of 2 international riders, two grooms and a head girl. They are a tight knit team who work hard to achieve their goals whilst having a lot of fun along the way! They travel regularly, including to competitions all over the UK and abroad, and consider nothing too much effort for their horses. Danewood Dressage is a private, perfectly formed competition yard boasting excellent facilities including stables for 12 horses, a full-sized outdoor arena, a 20x40m indoor arena, wash bays and tack-up bay, 2 solariums, tack room and rug room, sand turnout pens, acres of paddocks and access to excellent hacking. 

Danewood dressage are recruiting for an enthusiastic apprentice to join their experienced team. They are offering the opportunity to train with top quality horses learning skills and knowledge from highly experienced riders and grooms. An ideal  start to a career in the equine industry.

You will be working with a fun, dynamic and highly knowledgeable team who are there to prepare you for the exciting career working on an international competition yard.

Duties to include but not limited to;

  • Mucking out
  • Turning out/bringing in
  • Tack cleaning and tacking up
  • Feeding and filling hay nets
  • Clipping, pulling, plaiting, trimming
  • Bathing and rug changing
  • Hacking for the right candidate
  • First aid
  • Exercising the horses from the ground
  • Holding for vet, farrier, dentist

Desired Skills and Qualities

  • Due to the nature of horses, equine experience is necessary
  • Fun with a good sense of humour
  • Hard working
  • Willing to learn

Desired Qualifications

  • Grade 4 or C in English and Maths GCSE or equivalent desired but not essential.
  • Applicants much not hold a level 2 in Equine or above.

Possible Progression

  • Prospect to go onto a level 3 Senior Equine Groom.

Training

  • Full training to be provided by the employer and KEITS at the place of employment.
  • The applicant will be working towards a Level 2 Equine Groom Apprenticeship
  • The learner will be allocated an industry specific training consultant who will provide both remote and on site visits throughout the apprenticeship.
  • The apprentice will work towards an End Point Assessment (EPA) at the end of their apprenticeship.
