About this opportunity:

Kingsmead is an award winning riding school is set in the Surrey countryside, yet is only a few miles from London. They welcome riders of all ages and ability in their five outdoors riding arenas, woods and miles of hacking straight from the yard.

We are looking for a new apprentice for this exciting opportunity to join a friendly and supportive team learning all the skills you require for a full career in the equine industry.

Duties to include, but not limited to;

  • Turning out and bringing in
  • Mucking out
  • Feeding, watering and haying
  • Grooming
  • Clipping and trimming
  • Maintaining the cleanliness of the yard at all times
  • Bandaging
  • Tacking up
  • Lunging/ long reining
  • Treating minor wounds and assisting with vet, physio, dentist and farrier visits.
  • Assisting with events at Kingsmead
  • Assisting with lessons

Desired skills and qualities

  • Horse handling experience (details of which must be shown on your application)
  • Team work
  • Committed and reliable
  • Enthusiasm

Desired qualifications

  • GCSE or equivalent, Grade C/4 or above in maths and English preferred but not essential
  • Applicants should not already hold a Level 2 Equine qualification

Future prospects

  • The opportunity for employment or to move onto a Level 3 Senior Groom Apprenticeship for the right candidate should the position be available.

Training

  • Full training to be provided by the employer and KEITS at the place of employment. The applicant will be working towards a Level 2 Equine Groom apprenticeship.
  • The learner will be allocated an industry specific training consultant who will provide both remote and on site visits throughout the apprenticeship.
  • The apprentice will work towards an End Point Assessment (EPA) at the end of their apprenticeship.
