About this opportunity:

We are a busy livery yard with over 120 acres of on site safe hacking. We also have a floodlit indoor school and ALL year turnout, so we are the home of many happy horses. We are seeking a new apprentice to join our team and learn all aspects of horse care perfect to propel them into a future career with horses!

This Equine Groom Apprenticeship position is open to someone who is passionate about the highest care of horses, good at working in a team and who would like to learn more about the managerial role in the equestrian industry.

Jobs to include but not limited to:

  • Feeding horses & providing water
  • Organise schedule for the day
  • Turn out & muck out
  • Grooming & tacking up
  • Washing off
  • Tack cleaning
  • Making feeds & hay nets
  • Washing saddle pads,
  • Leading & teaching
  • Sweeping & tidying yard

Desired skills and qualities 

  • Previous experience working with horses is DESIRABLE, this is a small and busy yard. Applicants who give examples of prior equine experience on application will be preferred.
  • Customer service skills are desired with good communication
  • Reliable with good time management skills
  • The applicant needs to work well within a team but also use their own initiative.
  • A keen interest in horses is essential

Desired qualifications

  • Applicants must not already hold a level 2 or higher in a horse care related qualification to be eligible and considered for this apprenticeship.
  • GCSEs, or equivalent, in maths and English are desirable
  • Possibility for continuing onto a level 3 advanced apprenticeship once completed.

Future prospects

  • Future full time employment may be available for the right candidate.
  • This apprenticeship is perfect for those looking to be yard managers, equine grooms, professional riders or start a career with horses.

Training

  • Full training to be provided by the employer and KEITS at the place of employment. The applicant will be working towards and
  • gain a Level 2 Equine Groom apprenticeship.
  • The learner will be allocated an industry specific training consultant who will provide both remote and on site visits throughout the apprenticeship.
  • The apprentice will work towards an End Point Assessment (EPA) at the end of their apprenticeship.
