About this opportunity:

Robinson College is looking to recruit an Apprentice Gardener. This is a two year fixed term apprenticeship and we are looking to fill this vacancy as soon as possible. Together with supervision by KEITS, Robinson will provide full time, paid work with training. This includes 1 day a week college attendance in term time, as well as work based training and any other training deemed necessary. The successful candidate will display an enthusiastic interest in horticulture with a keen desire to learn and develop their skills in this area. The role involves assisting members of the gardening team in the day to day running of the College gardens and carrying out duties within their capabilities that are required by the Head Gardener or members of his team.

This is an exciting opportunity for an aspiring Gardener to learn valuable skills and techniques which will give them a great start in to their career as a Gardner.

The role involves:

  • Maintaining borders
  • Greenhouse work
  • Turf care
  • Leaf sweeping
  • Hedge cutting
  • Other associated duties within the College garden

  • Ability to carry out physical requirements of the role

Desired Qualifications:

  • The successful candidate will ideally possess GCSE Maths and English at grades A – E.

Training:

  • Full training to be provided by the employer and KEITS at the place of employment.
  • The applicant will be working towards a Level 2 Horticulture and Landscape Operative Apprenticeship.
  • The learner will be allocated an industry specific training consultant who will provide both remote and on site visits throughout the apprenticeship.
  • The apprentice will work towards an End Point Assessment (EPA) at the end of their apprenticeship.
  • Depending on which apprenticeship pathway your employer chooses to offer within horticulture. You may also need to achieve all or a combination of the following courses before taking your end point assessment: Level 3 award in Emergency First Aid at Work, Level 2 Principles of Safe Handling and Application of Pesticides Guidance, Level 2 Award in the Safe Use of Pesticides and Abrasive Wheel.
