When Louis joined Oakwood Dog Day School to begin his apprenticeship with KEITS Training Services, he had never worked with animals before. However, he had a clear ambition to one day work with police dogs, and his apprenticeship provided the perfect opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience, develop his skills and take his first steps towards a career working with dogs.
Over the course of his Level 2 apprenticeship, Louis quickly went from strength to strength. According to his employer, Leanne, he adapted exceptionally well to the busy day school environment, demonstrating a natural ability to work with dogs and a real enthusiasm for learning. His hardworking attitude, willingness to develop and quick understanding of the role helped him make excellent progress throughout his training.
One of Louis’s greatest strengths has been his approach to animal care. Leanne has been particularly impressed by the patience and consideration he shows towards the dogs, always putting their needs first and remaining calm, even in a busy environment.
“Louis has so much time for the dogs, never becoming stressed and always putting their care first,” says Leanne. “He has the admiration of his colleagues and also his peers.”
Receiving such positive feedback from his employer is a fantastic reflection of the commitment Louis has shown throughout his apprenticeship. He has worked hard to build his knowledge and practical skills, while becoming a valued member of the Oakwood team.
Recognising Louis’s potential and wanting to support his continued development, the team at Oakwood were keen to find a way for him to progress further within the company. Leanne was delighted to share the news that an opportunity had been created for Louis to continue his training at a higher level.
“We have found space within our companies for him to move forward onto his Level 3!”
This is a brilliant next step for Louis, giving him the opportunity to build on everything he has learnt during his Level 2 apprenticeship and continue developing his skills and confidence in the industry.
Louis’s journey so far highlights how an apprenticeship can open doors to a new career, even for those starting with no previous experience. With his passion for dogs, strong work ethic and commitment to their welfare, he has already made a positive impression on those around him.
Everyone at KEITS would like to congratulate Louis on his progress and wish him every success as he begins the next stage of his apprenticeship journey at Oakwood Dog Day School. We look forward to seeing how his skills and ambitions continue to develop as he works towards his future goals!
