At KEITS, we are always proud to see our learners grow in confidence, skills, and ambition and Marcus is a fantastic example of just that. Marcus’ journey began in September 2023 when he joined the Changing Lives Through Horses programme with the British Horse Society at Wormwood Scrubs Pony Centre.
From the very start, he showed dedication and a genuine passion for working with horses, laying strong foundations for his future. Building on this experience, Marcus progressed in September 2024 onto a Level 2 Riding Apprenticeship with KEITS.
During this time, he has continued to develop both practically and personally, gaining valuable industry skills while growing in confidence. Recently, his Training Consultant Claire met with the CEO at Wormwood Scrubs Pony Centre, where Marcus has now successfully completed his apprenticeship and the feedback could not have been more positive. “I am incredibly proud of Marcus and all that he has achieved.” Marcus has made a lasting impression at the centre, not only through his hard work but also through his ability to connect with others.
His communication skills and confidence have flourished, particularly when engaging with visitors. He has led tours for a wide range of audiences, from VIP guests to young children. One standout moment was when he delivered an excellent tour for the Master Loriner during a special visit, where riding hats were presented to the centre. His knowledge and presentation skills left a strong impression, even being recognised in the organisation’s newsletter.
Marcus also guided a group of children during a “Meet the Ponies” event, where his enthusiasm and approachable manner helped spark curiosity and interest among the young visitors. “Marcus is clearly a natural when it comes to guiding visitors, whether they are VIPs or young children.”
His achievements have not gone unnoticed. Marcus was awarded a Jack Petchey Award, recognising his hard work, growth, and positive contribution. This is a significant milestone and a testament to how far he has come. What’s particularly inspiring is the transformation Marcus has undergone. Through the support of the Changing Lives Through Horses programme and his apprenticeship, he has developed into a confident young adult with exciting potential ahead.
Looking to the future, there are already conversations underway about Marcus’ next steps, with the possibility of progressing to university to further his academic development and career opportunities.
His journey highlights the real impact that apprenticeships and supportive learning environments can have, not just in building skills, but in changing lives.
We are incredibly proud of Marcus and can’t wait to see where his journey takes him next.
