
The florist will use their expertise and knowledge of flowers, plants, botanical materials and accessories to produce floral designs. The design of floral work, whether it is a small bouquet or a large installation for a major event, requires the florist to be innovative and creative.
Excellent levels of customer care and sales skills are crucial as florists are often commissioned for important events such as weddings, funerals etc.
Florists must have, follow and be aware of current safe working practises and legislation relevant to the floral/retail industry and understand the need to organise and be responsible for prioritising their own workload.

The Florist Standard covers the following core topic areas in which both knowledge and skills will be covered:
- Safe Working Practices
- Identification of Botanical Materials and Plants
- Conditioning Flowers and Foliage
- Customer Service
- Principles of Design
- Designs in a Medium
- Floral Tied Designs
- Glued Floristry Designs
- Wired Floristry Designs
- Floral Manipulation Techniques
The apprentice will also develop Core Behaviours including safe working, work ethics, planning, responsibility, technology, personal professional development, teamwork, professional conduct, and communication.

Delivery Method
The Florist Standard is delivered using a blended learning methodology which includes both face to face visits and remote training sessions, dependent on location. The apprenticeship will finish with an End Point Assessment (EPA) assessed by and Independent External Assessment (IEPA). Each EPA is sector specific and may involve practical demonstrations, written tests, professional discussions and review of evidence.
Expected Duration
17 -24 months with a minimum of 12 months
