After more than four years of discussion and negotiation GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation), Europe’s new legislation for data protection laws, will come into force on May 25th 2018, replacing the 1995 data protection directive which current UK law is based upon.
The GDPR legislation is designed to “harmonise” data privacy laws across Europe as well as give greater protection and rights to individuals. Companies covered by the GDPR will be more accountable for their handling of people’s personal information, with much heavier fines for non-compliance.
In preparation, KEITS has been busy preparing for this date and leaners and our employers will be receiving updated notices and polices to reflect these changes.
