I began my KEITS apprenticeship in 2015. Although I had been around horses in my youth, I had little experience before starting my apprenticeship. From the very first day, I fell in love with the job. I was eager to learn and wanted to know more with every passing day. During my apprenticeship, I fell in love with horses, I ended up buying my first pony, who taught me so much during our time together. I also achieved my BHS Stage 1 during this period.
Shortly after completing my apprenticeship, I received a job offer at a much larger yard, where I felt like I was starting over, as there was so much more to learn, but with excellent training and guidance, I successfully achieved my BHS Stage 2, Stage 3, and the PTT qualification. It was also at this yard that I bought my current horse, Bally, with whom I have gone on to compete in eventing.
Throughout my career, I’ve worked at various yards, each one offering unique experiences, valuable lessons, and the chance to meet wonderful horses and people. Over time, I discovered a passion for teaching and sharing my knowledge. I am incredibly grateful for all the trainers who have supported me along the way, and I wanted to be able to give someone the same support that I received.
After spending a year in the Lake District, where I again met many lovely horses and people, I returned home and saw that KEITS were hiring. I fondly remembered my apprenticeship from 10 years ago and thought how fulfilling it would be to become a training consultant. I’m truly grateful for this opportunity and look forward to helping learners, who were once in my shoes, get the best possible start in the equine industry.
