Emilia Marsh recently completed a Level 2 Animal Care & Welfare Apprenticeship at Dogs Trust Canterbury and she sat down to answer a few questions about how KEITS have helped her achieve her goals and what she enjoyed the most about being an Apprentice.
How has KEITS and enrolling onto the Animal Care and Welfare Apprenticeship helped you?
“I have come so far with understanding the welfare of not just dogs, but all animals. I have been supported throughout the whole of my time wit KEITS and any silly questions I have had Kelly has answered them. My confidence has grown massively and I am proud to call myself a Canine Carer at Dogs Trust.”
How have you been supported?
“I have been fully supported by the Management team at the Dogs Trust; Harriet, Phil and Jo as well as my KEITS Assessor. I was given a structured time each week to focus on completing written work and gathering evidence for my portfolio. Every question has been answered and every visit has been a friendly experience. I have even finished a little ahead of schedule too!”
What aspects of the apprenticeship have you enjoyed?
“The practical side of things have been really fun and I have enjoyed learning more about a wide range of animals too. I have learnt about the importance of animal welfare and the 5 welfare needs is something I will always remember.”
Finally, Phil Carter, her Line manager had a few good words to add about why Emilia was a successful candidate for the Animal Care & Welfare Apprenticeship and then Canine Carer Vacancy.
“We gave Emilia the role of Apprentice mostly due to her character and drive. This was a new industry for Emilia to learn and she was so keen at the interview. After progressing so well as an apprentice, she was then the successful candidate for a Canine Carer Vacancy at the Canterbury center. Well done!”
