🌟 Learner of the Month– Congratulations James! 🌟
We’re incredibly proud to present a Learner of the month Award to KEITS apprentice James, whose dedication, passion and drive truly go above and beyond.
James is nearing completion of his Level 2 Animal Care Apprenticeship at Fenn Bell Zoo, but that’s only part of his amazing journey. Alongside his apprenticeship, James has been pushing himself further within the sector while giving back in an inspiring way.
Skydiving for a cause
James was one of 14 members of the Fenn Bell Zoo team who took on a 12,000ft skydive to raise money for the Fishing Cat Association. After covering the cost of the jump, the team raised an incredible £4,000+ for this important conservation charity — an outstanding achievement!
Developing specialist skills
James is also currently completing his Raptor Award at Leeds Castle. He has already completed an intensive 5-day practical course and is now working through the theory element. During the course, James has gained hands-on experience in:
-
Preparing food for birds of prey
-
Flying birds free
-
Using a range of falconry equipment
-
Manning birds
-
Safe bird handling
-
Learning and tying the Falcon knot
-
Carrying out imping on damaged feathers
He has worked with a wide variety of birds, including Harris Hawks, Red-tailed Hawks, Goshawks, and a selection of owls, further strengthening his specialist knowledge and confidence.
James’ commitment to learning, conservation and personal development makes him a truly deserving recipient of this award. Well done James, we can’t wait to see what you achieve next!
