What do I need to do as an employer to support an apprentice?
Thinking of offering an apprenticeship within your business? Not sure what is expected or required of you?
Well look no further, let’s cover all that is required of a KEITS employer with an apprentice!
- You will need to provide your apprentice with a suitable quiet space so they are complete the knowledge work that is set at each session and have their remote sessions with their KEITS Training Consultant (TC)
- You will need to ensure you allocate time to complete the skills training with your apprentice in line with the Scheme Of Work provided at the start of the apprenticeship.
This training will go towards the Off the Job Training Hours required within the apprenticeship. - You will need to encourage and support your apprentice to develop their skills, knowledge and work place behaviours within your industry
- You will need to have an interest in their apprenticeship and check that they are completing the set work and adding to their off job hours weekly.
- You must have prompt communication with your TC to organise sessions, discuss any issues and sign/return any required documents to support the apprenticeship.
And there you have it! It really is as easy as that to not only aid in the growth of your own business but also help to train the future of your industry and support learners to gain their qualification.
Government incentives may be available and KEITS can also help you recruit a new apprentice if you do not have a current member of staff who is suitable.
