Wondering how an apprentice is assessed and evaluated?
Well here is the answer, explained short and sweet so there’s no need to worry! Whether you’re an employer looking to offer an apprenticeship or someone thinking of undertaking one, this is for you!
- Your KEITS Training Consultant (TC) will mark all completed work and provide you written and verbal feedback to help the apprentice progress and improve.
- Your TC will communicate with the employer on areas for development and progression which all goes towards an End Point Assessment.
- All apprenticeship standards have an End Point Assessment that includes an observation of practical skills and a Professional Discussion/interview on gathered portfolio evidence called a Showcase.
- Some standards also have a Multiple Choice question test which is completed online.
What will my Training Consultant do when they visit my business/my apprentice?
- When the TC books the Face to Face visit to the business they will discuss with the employer the plan for the visit and what activities/ assessments will be observed. This helps the visit to go as planned and the learner to get the most out of this visit.
- For example level 2 in animal care apprentices could be observed carrying out the cleaning and preparing of accommodation, preparing of feeds for the animals in their care, skin and coat care, providing a health check on an animal or carrying out enrichment and training with the animals.
- For dog grooming apprentices they could be observed carrying out a health check on a dog, carrying out the bathing and drying of a dog and developing a grooming styling plan with the stylist or owner.
- The observed skills will be sector specific and recorded with video/photo and written evidence which will form part of the Showcase.
- The apprentice will be given feedback on how their skills are developing.
