Animal Care & Welfare Assistant Level 2 Apprenticeship Standard

 The Animal Care & Welfare Assistant is an important and integral part in the life of the animal, providing essential day-to-day health and welfare. They will be involved with feeding, cleaning, providing basic treatments, handling, movement, preparing animals for exercise and enrichment and carrying out other routine duties.

The Animal Care & Welfare Assistant may also be required to assist with the training of animals using positive reinforcement and preparing them for rehoming. Desensitisation and socialising. Preparation for movement and transportation and breeding dependent on the business needs and pathway option taken.

Dog Groomer Level 2 Apprenticeship Standard

This occupation is found in a wide range of pet animal care settings within the animal care sector. The dog groomer will work in a range of environments from departments within large retail pet stores/garden centres through to independent salons and as mobile dog groomers. They will work for day care providers, rescue centres and kennels.

You will develop your knowledge and experience of different dog breeds, coat type and health conditions. You will recognise how to adapt to the needs of the individual dog, for example, life stage, presence of parasites, behaviour. You will be taught the different bathing, drying and grooming techniques as required for a dog groomer. You will learn how to interact with customers and develop your customer service skills.

Keeper and Aquarist Level 3 Apprenticeship Standard

The Keeper and Aquarist is an important and integral part in the life of the animal, providing essential day-to-day health and welfare. Alongside routine duties they will be involved with diet and nutrition, the management of the environment including design.

The Keeper and Aquarist may also be required to assist with the training of animals using positive reinforcement, population management, principles of movement and transportation and research into conservation, education, and ethics around wild animals in captivity.
