Two Floristry Apprentices have shown they are among the best in the business by beating off stiff competition to win prestigious awards.
Charlotte Baker, 22, and Hannah Barlow, 23, won Gold and Bronze awards at WorldSkills UK – The Skills Show, which took place on 17 November at the NEC in Birmingham.
Charlotte Baker, who works at Hubbards Florist, a family business in Coventry, picked up a Gold Medal in the Advanced Apprenticeship section. She is completing her NVQ Level 3 Management award with KEITS Training Services. Charlotte said: “I’m quite shocked and still can’t believe it; I’m so happy. This will take me onto new things and is really good publicity for the shop.”
Ken Hubbard, Charlotte’s employer and grandfather said he was very proud of Charlotte.
Melanie Webb from KEITS worked with Charlotte to assess her training. Mel said: “I’m so proud of what Charlotte has achieved. Charlotte is a talented Florist and I wish her every success in the future.”
Hannah Barlow, who works at The Sodbury Florist, in Chipping Sodbury, Wiltshire, picked up a Bronze Medal in the Advanced Apprenticeship section. Hannah has completed her Level 2 Apprenticeship and Level 3 Apprenticeship in Floristry, also with KEITS. Melanie Webb said: “Hannah shows great talent and has a creative skill and her employers are very supportive. I’m so proud of what Hannah has achieved.”
David Rose, KEITS Chief Executive: “As one of the UK’s leading private training providers, we are thrilled that, not one, but two of our learners have picked up such coveted awards. Apprenticeships provide sustainable, industry recognised training, which is vital for up-skilling young people with the crucial technical and practical skills required for a strong and healthy economy.”
