TAILS from KEITS

We thought we’d share a few tails/tales from some of our animal care learners, haha see what we did there?

Anyway, we’ll start these stories with Millie at Dudley Zoo.
“Hi, my name is Millie, and I completed the level two Animal welfare and interaction apprenticeship at Dudley Zoo and Castle. At a young age, I always dreamed of myself working and caring for animals as I grew up caring and loving my own. Completing a KEITS apprenticeship allowed me to gain knowledge and experience with all kinds of animals, including primates and birds. The course helped my confidence in many ways from talking to visitors and giving animal experiences, to working and communicating with other keepers as a team. With the help from my training consultant and keeper staff, they were always there when I needed the help and experience to complete work that was set, ready to prepare me for my end point assessment. After completing the level two apprenticeship with a distinction, all my hard work and enthusiasm lead me to get a full-time job at Dudley Zoo and Castle with the birds section. But… my journey will not stop there as I carry on learning more as I am now looking forward to starting the level three keeper and aquarist apprenticeship.”
Millie’s employer Jamie has said:
“Millie has done fantastically well during her apprenticeship and has fully deserved her full time role, she is a role model for our future apprentices and a credit to the zoo, I wish her all the best for her level 3.”
