Apprentice Landscaper or Gardener

This is a great opportunity for an individual looking to progress in Horticulture or Landscaping.

We are looking for a Landscaper or Gardener. We have a Landscaping side or a garden maintenance side so it depends what area the apprentice wants to work in.

The duties involved with vary hugely, but either way there will be a skilled supervisor who will allocate tasks.

The tasks will be basic in nature to start, and more difficult tasks will be allocated based on performance as things progress. We are hoping to train the apprentice up to one day become a supervisor.

Tasks may include:

• Assisting with the maintenance of gardens and landscaped areas. Including tasks such as mowing, strimming, edging and weeding.
• Planting of trees, shrubs, flowers and seasonal bedding displays.
• Watering and caring for plants and shrubs
• Assisting with hard landscaping tasks (e.g. paving, fencing, pathways, turfing).
• Preparation of ground for planting and construction work.
• Helping install and maintain garden features such as borders and raised beds.
• Using and maintaining horticultural tools and machinery safely
• Cleaning and store equipment after use.

• Interest in gardening, or landscaping.
• Reliability – Must arrive on time
• Dependability – Must always come in to work
• Attentive – Must be fully committed to the work
• Tidy – Must be tidy in appearance.
• Must be committed to keeping work places tidy. This is the main responsibility of any entry level operative and is very important.
• Ambitious – Should want to progress, learn and aim to one day be a foreman

Desire Qualifications

• GCSE’s, or equivalents in maths and English are desired but not essential

Future Prospects

• Can lead to permanent position
• Opportunities for the right person to train up to one day be a supervisor

Training:

• Full training to be provided by the employer and KEITS at the place of employment.
• The applicant will be working towards a Level 2 Horticulture or Landscape Operative Apprenticeship.
• The learner will be allocated an industry specific training consultant who will provide both remote and on site visits throughout the apprenticeship.
• The apprentice will work towards an End Point Assessment (EPA) at the end of their apprenticeship.
• Depending on which apprenticeship pathway your employer chooses to offer within horticulture. You may also need to achieve all or a combination of the following courses before taking your end point assessment: Level 3 award in Emergency First Aid at Work, Level 2 Principles of Safe Handling and Application of Pesticides Guidance, Level 2 Award in the Safe Use of Pesticides and Abrasive Wheel.
