Here it is. The last one!
This week on the School Leaver Series we know the world feels like a bit of a crazy place right now and it may feel like the decisions you make now will affect the rest of your life.
So, we asked around the KEITS head office what they would tell their 16-year-old self if they could talk to them? What nugget of advice would they give to young people facing big decisions today?
Here is what they had to say;
“What’s for you won’t go by you!”
“Don’t waste time worrying over something you can’t change- that applies to work, relationships etc”
“Don’t dwell, move on!”
“I thought my grades would affect me with progressing in my career and I have never needed to discuss them in an interview! No one tells you at school that employers are more interested in your life skills and experiences”
“All the reasons that people might say you’re weird are actually what makes you interesting and when you find the right people, they’ll see that”
“It’s what is around the corner, that matters”
“Go with what you’re good at and not what others think you should do!”
“Don’t go to college/university if it feels like it’s not what you want to do. (If it feels like something your parents want you to do, or they, not you, see it as a logical thing to do) A gap year is still a thing”
“You do you and trust your gut! You can’t always change the situation you are in, but you can change the way you respond to a situation. You ARE in control of your own feelings”
“Be positive and make the most of any opportunities that come your way.”
So remember, when you are making those big decisions you don’t have to have all the answers now! It is your life, just enjoy the ride!
