About this opportunity:

As the son of three-times Olympic showjumper John Whitaker MBE and with countless family members taking part in the sport, there was never any doubt about what Robert Whitaker’s career would be. He lived up to the Whitaker name in style from the start, winning six European team gold medals and an individual bronze at European pony, junior and young rider championships. He has represented his country on Senior Nations Cup Teams on more than 25 occasions and was among the British riders long-listed for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. The yard offer a full range of livery services including assessment, competition, sales and rider/ horse training.

A fantastic apprenticeship vacancy with Robert Whitaker is now open. His last apprentice is now his show groom who’s busy travelling the world to various competitions and events!

Tasks will include:

  • Mucking out
  • Turning out/bring in horses
  • Daily care for horses
  • Daily yard maintenance
  • Feeding/watering/hay
  • Grooming/trimming
  • Bathing/platting
  • Tacking up/show prep
  • Attending shows and competitions
  • Basic business interactions with liveries
  • Producing and sales of show class horses

Desired Skills & Personal Qualities:

  • Hard working
  • Owning your own horse or having previous experience with horses is essential.
  • Team Player
  • Willingness to learn and develop within the equestrian industry.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Applicants must not already hold a Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in the equine sector to be eligible for this apprenticeship.

Training

  • Full training to be provided by the employer and KEITS at the place of employment.
  • The applicant will be working towards a Level 2 Equine Groom Apprenticeship
  • The learner will be allocated an industry specific training consultant who will provide both remote and on site visits throughout the apprenticeship.
  • The apprentice will work towards an End Point Assessment (EPA) at the end of their apprenticeship.
