
The role of the retailer is to advise on and sell products and services in a customer-centred retail environment. Retailers provide information and advice to customers regarding stock, products, different ways customers can shop and various payment methods.
A retailer will be responsible for maintaining business standards; ensuring stock is presented, replenished and available for the customer to purchase. Retailers work to meet or exceed customer expectations and will be answering customers enquiries.

Retail outlets range from traditional high street shops, garden centres, and gift shops to larger organisations such as supermarkets and department stores. A retailer can work in any kind of retail outlet, both large of small.
Course Content
The Retailer comprises of three main sections of knowledge, skills and behaviours. Some examples of the types of activities undertaken are below:
- Undertaking daily procedures such as setting up and clearing displays.
- Processing sales, exchanges, and refunds.
- Providing product and service information.
- Respond to and support with enquiries and complaints.
- Contribute to and understand health and safety
- Maintain stock and understand stock control
- Use IT and technology as required.
- Understand how to reduce waste and improving sustainability
Delivery Method
The Retailer Standard is delivered using a blended learning methodology which includes both face to face visits and remote training sessions. The apprenticeship will finish with an End Point Assessment (EPA) assessed by an Independent External Assessor (IEPA). The EPA is sector specific and may involve practical assessments, written tests, professional discussions and review of evidence.
