About this opportunity:

Langdale is a busy livery yard who’s water treadmill was first opened to the public in October 2016. Langdale is a successful livery/ training and competition yard. Shelley, the owner is a qualified Equine Body Worker, BHSII and was one of the first four people in the UK to gain the Dressage Specific UKCC Level 3 Certificate in Coaching and am an accredited British Dressage Coach. Langdale is looking for a capable new apprentice who is able to handle large and fit competition horses. We have a varied day that includes equine visitors to the water treadmill who may also stay a few nights with us too. We are a friendly team who will will develop and train our apprentice to an extremely high level.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed individual looking to develop their skills in horse care. You will work alongside our current team handling and caring for our horses. All aspects of horse care will be covered, perfect for anyone looking to get into the industry.

Duties include:

  • Mucking out
  • Yard duties
  • Turning out
  • Tacking up
  • Assisting at competitions
  • Feeding
  • Riding and lunging opportunities
  • Helping with Livery clients/ horses
  • Assisting with water treadmill

Desired skills

  • Previous riding experience and confidence handling a variety of horses is essential and must be shown on application
  • Good customer service skills are needed

Desired qualifications

  • English and maths GCSE’s, or equivalents, are desired
  • Applicants must not already hold a level 2 or higher in Horse Care to be eligible

  • Possible progression onto a level 3 apprenticeship
  • Current yard manager trained with KEITS and is still with the employer!

Training

  • Full training to be provided by the employer and KEITS at the place of employment.
  • The applicant will be working towards and gain a Level 2 Equine Groom Apprenticeship
  • The learner will be allocated an industry specific training consultant who will provide both remote and on site visits throughout the apprenticeship.
