About this opportunity:

The yard is owned and managed by Claire Dodson BSc, BHS Stage 4 Complete Senior Coach and UKCC Level 3. Claire is a highly experienced trainer and competitor, primarily in Eventing but also in all Riding Club and Pony Club activities. Moats Way Equestrian is a premier livery yard in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire and aims to provide a business-like approach to livery, balanced with an informal and caring atmosphere on the yard. It offers five-star accommodation with purpose built stables, fantastic facilities and dedicated care for liveries and their horses.

We are looking for a reliable, hardworking, flexible, trustworthy, friendly apprentice with some previous equine experience and horse handling who is willing to work as a team player. Be prepared to work in all weathers to join our fun and experienced team.  The Moats Way team are all ready to pass on their knowledge and experience to help you gain this work-based qualification.

Duties will include but not limited to;

  • Mucking out
  • Turning out and catching in
  • Feeding and watering
  • Exercising horses

Desired Qualifications

  • Maths and English GCSE C/4 or above desired but not essential.
  • Must not already hold a level 2 or higher in Horse Care.

Future Prospects

  • An advanced apprenticeship for the right candidate if the position should arise.

Training 

  • Full training to be provided by the employer and KEITS at the place of employment.
  • The applicant will be working towards and gain a Level 2 Equine Groom Apprenticeship
  • The learner will be allocated an industry specific training consultant who will provide both remote and on site visits throughout the apprenticeship.
  • We are not on a bus route so reliable transport is very important.

Things to Consider

  • The apprentice will be working to build a portfolio of evidence and will be required to pass a knowledge test and an End Point Assessment (EPA) to complete the apprenticeship.
