About this opportunity:

David Britnell is a 5* International Event Rider and BHS Accredited Professional Coach specialising in the backing of young horses and producing through the levels of eventing to 5*. Based just outside Cambridge on our beautiful 26 box yard with 50 acres including 2 arenas, grass canter track and xc training fields with water complex we are set up perfectly for training our event horses. As well as the event horses we also offer luxury full livery.

We are looking for a permanent, full time, live in apprentice groom to work alongside our current “Dream Team”. You are welcome to bring your own horse to be stabled here too.
This position is live in, in one of our on-site 2 bedroom barn conversion apartments with a nominal rent bills all included including council tax, electricity and water. You will be required to work as part of our team; responsible for the day to day care & maintenance of the horses. You will be able to carry out all normal yard duties to an industry standard; mucking out, feeding, grooming, tacking up, tack cleaning, washing off, plaiting/show prep, clipping/trimming, turning out and bringing in with opportunities to ride & travel for the right candidate.

You will be required to:

  • Work as part of our team; responsible for the day to day care & maintenance of the horses.
  • Carry out all normal yard duties to an industry standard; mucking out, feeding, grooming, tacking up and tack cleaning.
  • Carry out show prep including plating, clipping/trimming and washing off.
  • Assist with the movement of horses either turning out and bringing in or loading/unloading.
  • There will be opportunities to ride & travel for the right candidate.

Qualifications

  • GCSE’s in Maths and English are desired.
  • Applicants MUST NOT already hold a level 2 or 3 in horse care to be eligible for this level 2 apprenticeship.

Training

  • Full training to be provided by the employer and KEITS at the place of employment.
  • The applicant will be working towards and gain a Level 2 Equine Groom Apprenticeship
  • The learner will be allocated an industry specific training consultant who will provide both remote and on site visits throughout the apprenticeship.
