About this opportunity:

Bluejay Dog Wellness is a dedicated, professional pet care and dog daycare business focused on providing the highest standard of animal physical and mental well-being. We offer professional group dog walking, day care, exercise, and enrichment activities tailored to each dog’s needs. Our mission is to create a safe, engaging, and loving environment for every dog in our care while maintaining complete trust and peace of mind for our clients.

You will be working as part of our team in our busy day care centre, with lots of vocal and playful dogs of all breeds and sizes, in all weathers:

  • Daily Care & Supervision: Assisting with the daily handling, socialisation, and monitoring of dogs in daycare and during outdoor group walks.
  • Health & Hygiene: Ensuring clean, safe facilities by assisting with sanitisation, cleaning kennels/play areas, feeding, and checking daily health and hygiene.
  • Enrichment & Exercise: Leading interactive play, sensory enrichment, and basic training reinforcement to keep dogs mentally and physically stimulated.
  • Customer & Team Communication: Assisting with daily handover notes for owners, logging behavioral updates, and supporting team daily routines.
  • Learning & Development: Completing required apprenticeship units, coursework, and practical skill logs on time with mentorship from senior team members.

  • Passionate About Animals: Genuine enthusiasm for working with dogs and learning professional animal care standards.
  • Reliable & Punctual: Dependable, with a strong work ethic and good time management.
  • Active & Outdoor-Ready: Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions and keeping up with energetic dogs.
  • Good Communicator: Friendly, polite manner when dealing with clients and team members.
  • Team Player: Keen to take instruction, ask questions, and support colleagues.

Desired Qualifications

  • GCSE or equivalent English & Maths (Grade 4) Desired
  • Applicants must NOT already hold a level 2 in Animal Care to be eligible.
Future Progression
  • Future employment for the right candidate
  • Our manager and supervisor are in the process of enrolling in L3 animal welfare and management. We encourage growth with all our employees and happy to fund online animal courses which are of interest or even L3.
Training
  • Full training to be provided by the employer and KEITS at the place of employment.
  • The applicant will be working towards a Level 2 Animal Care Apprenticeship Standard.
  • The learner will be allocated an industry specific training consultant who will provide both remote and on site visits throughout the apprenticeship.
  • The apprentice will work towards an End Point Assessment (EPA) at the end of their apprenticeship.

  • The apprentice will be working to build a portfolio of evidence and will be required to pass a knowledge test and an End Point Assessment (EPA) to complete the apprenticeship.
