About this opportunity:

We are a small and friendly family run dog boarding kennel near Southam in the beautiful Warwickshire countryside. Set in 25 acres of private grassland which is perfect for walks and play, we have over 30 years experience in caring for, breeding and training dogs. We cater for each dog’s individual needs and whatever service you may require, our main aim is to provide them with a loving and happy home away from home. There is also stabling for 9 racehorses in training with Julie.

An exciting opportunity to join a well-established dog boarding kennels and a day care centre learning all the skills for a career in the industry. The candidate will also be required to assist with the care of the racehorses from October to May.

Duties include, but not limited to;

  • Help provide a stimulating and safe environment for all dogs
  • Supervise dogs & be vigilant of their well being
  • Supplying fresh water and food as required
  • Removing dog waste immediately
  • Monitoring of dogs behaviour and welfare
  • Working as a team
  • General cleaning duties and simple maintenance of the centre such as sweeping, hoovering, washing up, painting etc.
  • Doing any other reasonable duties required as the business grows
  • Ensuring dogs are entertained and safe at all times

The Duties caring for the racehorses will include but not limited to;

  • Mucking out
  • Feeding and watering
  • Turning out and catching in
  • General field maintenance
  • Riding for the right candidate
  • Attending races for the right candidate

This is an exciting and varied role to prepare the successful candidate for a career in the animal care sector.

Desired Qualifications

  • GCSE maths and English Grade C/4 or equivalent desirable but not essential.
  • Applicants must not already a level 2 or higher in animal care.

Future Progression

  • Progression to level 3 animal care or full employment should a position arise

Training

  • The apprentice will be working to build a portfolio of evidence and will be required to pass a knowledge test and an End Point Assessment (EPA) to complete the apprenticeship.
  • All training will take place at the work location and the applicant will complete an animal care apprenticeship in full.
