About this opportunity:

North Walsham Town Council works closely with North Norfolk District Council and Norfolk County Council to ensure that the needs of residents are represented at every level. While the Town Council is responsible for a wide range of local services and facilities, it also acts as a voice for the community on planning, development, transport, environmental issues and public wellbeing. ​

A typical day for our new apprentice will be supporting our Grounds Team with a variety of practical tasks such as;

  • Grass Cutting
  • Strimming
  • Litter Picking
  • Weeding
  • Planting
  • Watering
  • Hedge and Schrub maintenance
  • Keeping the parks, open spaces and communal areas tidy and well presented
  • Setting up for Events
  • Routine safety and maintenance checks of equipment and reporting any issues

There are opportuinites to learn how to use grounds maintenance tools and machines safely, understand health and safety procedures and gain experience of working outside in a team environment. As an apprentice, you may also have the chance to assist with seasonal projects, improve local green spaces, contribute to work that has visable impact on the community and get involved in community events at the weekend.

Desired Qualifications

  • Applicants must not already hold a level 2 or above in horticulture
  • Driving license is Preferable

Future Progression

  • On completion of the apprenticeship, there is a high chance of a full time role for the right candidate.

Training

  • Full training to be provided by the employer and KEITS at the place of employment.
  • The applicant will be working towards and gain a Level 2 Horticulture and Landscape Operative Apprenticeship
  • The learner will be allocated an industry specific training consultant who will provide both remote and on site visits throughout the apprenticeship.
  • The apprentice will work towards an End Point Assessment (EPA) at the end of their apprenticeship.
  • You will also need to achieve Level 3 award in Emergency First Aid at Work and Level 2 Principles of Safe Handling and Application of Pesticides Guidance or Level 2 Award in the Safe Use of Pesticides before undertaking the End Point Assessment.

  • The apprentice will be working to build a portfolio of evidence and will be required to pass a knowledge test and an End Point Assessment (EPA) to complete the apprenticeship.
  • Due to the popularity of our apprenticeships applicants may not hear if unsuccessful.
