About this opportunity:

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our dynamic team at Dogtastic Daycare, a fun dog daycare, play and training centre based in Leicestershire. We are looking for a special person who can connect with the dogs on a deeper level to help look after our pack of all sizes. The role will include managing safe play, leading games and activities, intensive cleaning, helping with lunches etc. The ideal candidate should be able to demonstrate confidence and a willingness to learn safe pack dog play (well managed) so you can interrupt dogs, teaching them correct canine etiquette.

The successful candidate will be given the opportunity to and learn about:

  •  the intricacies of canine behaviour and body language.
  • experience various types of dog training.
  • how to transport dogs safely.
  • dog handling and basic canine etiquette.
  • food preparation and using food in training.
  • a high standard of cleaning and sanitation.
  • provide canine first aid and to administer necessary medication.

Desired Skills & Personal Qualities:

  • You need to be confident working alone and as part of a team as well as trustworthy, reliable and willing to learn.
  • You should be extremely people friendly and have the ability to update parents on their puppy’s progress on a regular basis. The right person will be able to convey their love for each dog and puppy and facilitate seamless arrivals and departures, so excellent communication skills are required.
  • You should also be willing to join our staff sometimes for doggy play dates in our secure field, and walk dogs from our daycare site as and when required.
  • The ideal candidate should be able to demonstrate confidence and a willingness to learn safe pack dog play (well managed) so you can interrupt dogs, teaching them correct canine etiquette. You should be able to recognise when puppies need a nap, enable relaxation and toilet breaks and should have a good knowledge of handling canine food and food hygiene.
  • The job is extremely hard physical work and includes maintaining an high level of cleanliness across all areas. It will include immediately clearing away all excrement, urine and vomit and cleaning and sanitising area. You should be confident in leading a group of larger, older and higher energy dogs, and maintaining their focus on you. You will need to have a bubbly and outgoing personality.
  • GSCE’s in Maths and English are desired.

Future Prospects:

  • Becoming a puppy or dog trainer
  • Potential future employment for the right candidate

Training:

  • The apprentice will be working to build a portfolio of evidence and will be required to pass a knowledge test and an End Point Assessment (EPA) to complete the apprenticeship.
  • All training will take place at the work location and the applicant will complete an animal care apprenticeship in full

Things to Consider:

  • Must be physically fit as you will be on your feet most of the day and handling a variety of different sizes and breeds of dogs.
