Barton Stud is supported by Oliver Pynn BVSc CertEP MRCVS and Paul Ormond MVB MRCVS of the leading veterinary practice the Newmarket Equine Hospital whose modern, top class facilities ensure that the very best treatment and care are available at all times. Farrier work is carried out by Nick and Adam Curtis. Nick and Adam are both renowned in their field and operate to the highest standard. Barton Stud focuses on attention to detail, thus providing our clients with a highly professional and personal service.

An exciting opportunity to join a fun, friendly team learning all aspects for a future career in the equestrian industry.

Duties to include but not limited to;

  • Mucking out
  • Turning out/bring in horses
  • Daily care for horses
  • Daily yard maintenance
  • Feeding/watering/hay
  • Grooming/trimming
  • Exercising – riding/lunging depending on experience
  • Basic business interactions with liveries
  • Holding for the farrier/vet

Desired Skills & Qualities

  •  Hard working.
  • Applicants should have some previous experience of dealing with horses and must show this on their application.
  • Team Player.

Desired Qualifications

  • English and maths GCSE’s, or equivalents, are desired.
  • Applicants must not already hold a level 2 or higher in Horse Care to be eligible for a level 2 apprenticeship.

Future Prospects

  • Opportunity to be offered a full time job after completion and possible Level 3.

Training

  • Full training to be provided by the employer and KEITS at the place of employment.
  • The applicant will be working towards and gain a Level 2 Equine Groom Apprenticeship.
  • The learner will be allocated an industry specific training consultant who will provide both remote and onsite visits throughout the apprenticeship.
  • The apprentice will work towards an End Point Assessment (EPA) at the end of their apprenticeship.
